Home of Words

The brain thinks words.
The hand writes words.
The eye reads words.
The ear hears words.
The logophile loves words.

Some logophiles have no brains,
Some have no hands.
Others have no eyes,
Others have no ears.
Yet: all logophiles love words.

Mark Twain wrote:
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

This quote inspired me to go on 'semi-retirement' at the age of 58 in 2011.
Twenty years from 2011, if I am still alive, I will turn 78. I do not want to be disappointed by the things I did not do.

I asked my mom on her death bed if she she had any regrets on things she did not do in her life. She said yes: she regretted that she never took up the pen to become a story writer. She died on 17 October 2011.

I had a dream to become a story writer since early childhood. And yet: I never took the courage to follow Mark Twain's advice to throw off the bowlines and to sail away from the safe harbour. But when my mother died I knew: the time has come. I must become a writer.

So, this website is dedicated to my journey to become a writer.  I have oodles of stories in my head. But I know that the road to success will require hard work and dedication. And in between, I must still survive financially.

Update March 2013

2012 turned out as black a year in my life as 2011. My own health took a dramatic dip and I was in and out of hospital several times. On 22 January 2013 I had a light stroke. For several hours I was not able to speak coherently and could not use my right arm.  That was a serious wake-up call!
